MK ReEntry 2015

IMG_1369…And that’s a wrap for the 2015 NCF MK ReEntry at Biola in L.A.!!  We had the privilege to serve 32 MKs from around the world, from over 20 countries! We had an amazing group who dove head first into the intense program.  We served with an all-star staff, we had 6 MK Staff who are a few years down road of transition, there were licensed Third Culture Kid Counselors, and Auxiliary staff.  It was truly a pleasure to work with all of them.

11755264_10205018748813007_7981768961005319636_nThe program is intense – no doubt about it.  The MKs are given an opportunity to work through some of the challenges of transitioning cross-culturally.  Tackling elements such as; learning practical “life in the USA”, beginning the process of grieving what they have just left behind, and looking forward to what is coming and how to grow in the Lord through such a daunting task.  It has been a privilege to watch these MKs over the last two weeks.  Cannot wait for the next one! 🙂

Thank you to our 60+ financial partners and the many more prayer partners who have given! Your giving has helped us be in position to help run this program.  Your partnership is so appreciated!

Below are a few pictures, though we have many more great pics on our Google Album.

Lastly, here is a note we received from an MK on the last day – it sure warmed our hearts to read! We wanted to share it because if it wasn’t for our ministry partners… we wouldn’t be here!  So this letter is not just for Bree and I… it is for YOU as well!

Hume PNG Fundraiser Tanks

8.20.14 Hume PNG Fundraiser Tanks

Hey Everyone!

Great way to support ministry to Missionary Kids.  Hume Lake Christian Camp is heading to Papua New Guinea to minister to New Tribes Missions Missionary Kids in October.  They will be running a Hume Lake style camp for the MKs who are living there with their families.

Bree and I were blessed to be on this team in 2012 and saw first hand how important these opportunities are.

The team is selling Hume PNG Tanktops to raise support for the trip.
-The cost for the tank is $20. [$2.50 for shipping]
-The tank design has the PNG national bird & the Hume Lake drop that derives from the mission statement to be a drop wherever lives are touched and that that would have a ripple effect to spread out & touch more lives.

You can order by emailing Eryn Holm at erynholm@gmail.com.

NTM MK Retreat 2014

8.11.14 NTM MK Retreat

This August, our New Tribes Mission MK Care Team hosted an college-age MK Retreat in Michigan.  What a blessing it was to fellowship together with so many of our NTM MKs all at once!   30 students from around the midwest and east coast made their way to the retreat and had a blast.

Our goals for the retreat were to:
-Have a relaxing few days before school/work starts back up for the students.
-Meet other MKs that have similar experiences and challenges.
-Get to know our MK Care team.
-Eat well and have fun.

…I think our goals were met!

MK ReEntry Seminar 2014

8.11.14 Biola MK ReEntry

This July, Bree and I were able to partner with the Narramore Christian Foundations’ MK ReEntry Seminar at Biola University.  It was an incredible 2-week program that gave MKs a unique chance to process their cross-cultural transition to the USA as well as into college.

This FUN-FILLED seminar had some very practical objectives:

Orientation: We talked about American culture—the good and the bad, college life, friendships and dating, and finances. There was several off-campus social and recreational outings, including the beach, and an amusement park.

Assessment: Personality tests that assess personal adjustment and identify growing edges.

Adjustment: Christian educators and counselors, with a heart for missions and a love for teens, encouraged and guided students in addressing areas for personal, social, and spiritual growth.

Challenge: Daily meetings, nightly dorm devotions, and informal conversations with staff and fellow MKs challenged students to trust God more fully and give new understanding to the Christian life.

One of the students said:

“As my family and I left South America earlier this year I didn’t shed a tear. All I felt was an empty numb feeling. All my lifelong friends where at the airport to see us off but I still couldn’t feel it.
I wondered what I was missing; why couldn’t I feel it?
This morning I felt it, all of it, as I said goodbye to all of you I felt that I was also saying goodbye to South America.
Thank you all so much for, well everything, I have felt a new kind of friendship with all of you that I have never felt before.
It all seems like a dream now that I’m back in the USA, but I will never forget the Reentry seminar.”

What a joy it was to be a part of this amazing program. We can’t wait for next year!

Practical Living Skills Trip

10.20.13 Practical Living

We recently had an opportunity to go on a three-day Practical/Survival skills trip.  The purpose was to help equip New Tribes Mission missionaries as they live and or visit remote locations in the deep jungles where unreached people groups often live.

We knew it was going to be a doozy of a trip when we learned we would be hiking everything in (including food) and would have to find our base camp via GPS coordinates, map, and compass.  The experience was great! … fun may not be the best way to describe if I’m honest, but VERY beneficial for sure.  Through we had rain and chilly temps that dipped into the 30’s at night, we had a chance to learn and practice a ton.

Very glad NTM values equipping and training so much… It makes a huge difference.
